I've been pairing with Data Scientists and ML Engineers, modeling and optimizing experiments through AB and MAB testing, as well as improving ML and DL algorithms that perform video feature extraction and the delivery of large-scale personalized recommendations. I did UX research to gather qualitative feedback on our algorithms and to get a better understanding on user context and the human tasks we try to automate.I created and conducted several workshops to open the ML "black box" and improve the communication with our customers (project managers, executive directors, news editors, etc.). I elaborated a recommendation canvas template that covers topics from business goals and recommendation hypotheses to feature selection and algorithmic approaches. I also designed tools to allow non-technical users to configure recommendation experiments by themselves.

I contributed to the Experimentation team for a quarter by conducting studies to arrive at a common understanding about the concept of context and how we can infer specific contexts from different sources of data (such as user's device, time, and environment data). These definitions would be used by reinforcement learning algorithms to deliver the best alternative for a given user in a given context, inserting the contextual MAB testing functionality into the Experimentation platform.

I worked doing research and consulting for media and advertising companies, namely RBS, Paim, and Globo.com. I participated in several projects, such as:• Voice User Interfaces for news applications;• Study on mobile user consumption behavior for lower-income classes;• IoT and smart home interfaces for the elderly;• Analysis and visualization of data on user engagement with digital news and paths leading to new subscriptions.

I participated in two research projects on automated layout generation for printed and digital multimedia documents, in partnership with HP Brazil R&D and HP Labs Palo Alto. I worked doing interface and interaction design, prototyping, usability tests, and front-end development.
