I have enjoyed a variety of experiences in my decade of work as a journalist, as I started out with three years covering small-town junior and high-school sports and now regularly interview world-class athletes in skiing, sliding sports, mountain biking and triathlon. At every level, in writing event wrap-ups and feature stories, it has been a pleasure to discover and convey what makes these highly dedicated people successful, but also how they manage pain and struggle.In recent years, I have learned how to craft and build longer features. These have ranged from how the track crew at the Whistler Sliding Centre prepares for the upcoming season to the edgy history of the bygone Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme to how the final finishers of long-distance races stay motivated through long and treacherous days. I have also written British Columbia and Yukon Community Newspaper Association award-winning features on how Indigenous people reconnect to the land through building mountain-bike trails and how first responders across British Columbia cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.In addition to keeping tabs on a wide range of sports topics, throughout my career I have been responsible for event photography at local competitions as well as pagination and proofreading during paper production using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
