Chief EngineerParsons Mar 2005 - Jun 2013Chantilly, Virginia, Us• Designed and developed large scale simulation of the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN). This simulation modeled network protocols accurately to the message/packet level. General Satellite communications (SATCOM) as well as coverage and antenna utilization.Designed and developed the SpartaSim simulation engine, as well as supporting software tools. Includes 3D and 2D visualization for satellite vehicles, and complex engineering systems, orbital propagation. Allows hierarchical design of systems via a simple drag and drop user interface. Also developed libraries for simulation of internet protocols.Developed tools for simulation of SV constellations for coverage analysis, and constellation configuration.Designed and developed Amplifier Mitigator Portable (AMP) software. This was a replacement amplifier for aging RF amplifiers. Included web server for system status, and system logging for condition based maintenance.Architected and designed ARTS C&S Processor re-host. Board design, firmware development and software development. Extensive programming with Microchip PIC microcontrollers.Develop simulation environment and models for the Distributed Unattended Ground Sensor (DUGS) system. Models include mesh networked sensors, protocol conversion gateway, RF linked data harvester, and Operations Command Station. Simulation development includes dynamic theatre based position/orientation models with articulated 2-D and 3-D graphics to support a system proof-of-concept for the Army Research Laboratory (ARL).Designed and developed MCU replacement for ARTS RF EHPA (Enhance High-Power Amplifier)Designed and developed High-powered amplifier (HPA) simulation to support testing and validation of SCNC deliverables. • Designed and developed tools for Test Automation, including lab automation tools, and a scripting language in support of lab automation. Printed circuit board (PCB) design and layout in support of ARTS processor replacement. -
Senior Staff EngineerLtx-Credence Aug 2000 - Mar 2005Poway, California, UsSoftware Architect and Lead Developer of the Modulated Vector Network Analyzer (MVNA) RF Automated Test Equipment (ATE). The MVNA was a commercial RF integrated circuit tester. Major features included:• Client/server architecture written in C++• Distributed server architecture running on Intel and embedded Motorola PowerPC processors• Client software operated on Windows XP/2000 and Linux. • Clients may be big or little-Endian. • Unique measurement-based API that supported such measurements as DFT, FFT, Power-In-Band, ACPR, EVM (80211a/b/g, GSM, EDGE, Zigbee) Time-To-Power, Time-To-Frequency, IP3, and many others. • Built in web (HTTP) server for debugging machine health and status.• Highest performance RF tester in the industry.Additionally, wrote and worked on many client applications and GUIs. Developed a large library of support classes and tools. Project used C++, C, Visual Studio, MFC, wxWidgets/wxWindows, sockets, embedded programming on PowerPC using WindRiver compiler. Wrote DSP code for several of the measurements.Worked with various domain exerts in designing the system. Also worked with customers to troubleshoot and optimize applications. -
Software EngineerWorld2One Dec 1999 - Jul 2000Part of a small team of developers that built iDex: an “e-business card”. This was a business card which could be inserted into e-mails. Recipients could then save these cards into their iDex (much like an electronic Rolodex). When the owner of the card made changes, all clients were automatically updated. Cards were also synchronized with Outlook and Outlook Express. Was responsible for development of custom local database that was then synchronized to the central database of all iDex cards. Project required C++, MFC, COM, Windows and socket programming.

System ArchitectBcsi, Inc Feb 1993 - Dec 1999One of four founders of this company. Architect and lead developer for high-fidelity packet-level network simulation for the Motorola Iridium network. Simulation features included:• All network paths.• All levels of network protocols.• Space Vehicles (SV) bus system, telemetry and physics. • Multi-threading; optimized to run on an eight processor SGI Onyx. • 3D interactive graphics developed using OpenGL and OpenInventor. • Model/View/Controller Architecture that allowed viewers and controllers to be added at run-time.• Modeled interaction and usage of satellite phones.• Modeled gateways (ground stations).• A simulated 24 hour day would generate and process over 250,000,000 packets.• Extensive post processing (over 600 plots from a single run) that would cover link statistics, SV position, health and status, and all message traffic.• Developed plotting/plot management tools to deal with huge amount of results.According to SGI, this was the first major C++ multi-processor program developed to run on an Onyx.Began similar simulation development for Motorola Teledesic network. Developed High-fidelity simulation of GPS, which modeled all subsystems, and modeled the telemetry to bit-level accuracy. This simulation could be connected to the operator’s console, and would operate as an actual SV.Developed 3D graphics and audio for a Cessna 172 Flight Simulator. This featured six graphics cards synchronized across two computers.Developed complete simulation engine and user interface based on Master’s Thesis (See Education). Work on forensic simulations for rendering of aircraft accidents for use in legal proceedings.
