About Daniel Garbark
I'm currently a Plant Environmental Coordinator at AEP/Wheeling Power that focuses on plant waste management (RCRA), process and storm water management (NPDES and SWPPP), environmental management such as SPCC, and process improvement development. In a previous role, I served as a synthetic chemist with 20+ years of experience in chemical formulation, product characterization, process development, and product development. I created novel approaches in the focus areas of bio-based products and processes leading to 36 granted US patents along with 15 pending US patent applications. I was a key member of Battelle’s bio-based products team which included soybean-based polyols, lubricants, powder coating resin, and surfactants. I further contributed to Battelle’s bio-mass pyrolysis, coal to polyols, bio-based oil sands viscosity reduction, and bio-based direct coal liquefaction teams. My laboratory experience includes lab management, operating a high-pressure processing facility, and overseeing pilot activities. Throughout my career I have worked on the development of polyols for polyurethane applications, such as rigid and flexible foams, from starting materials such as soybean oil, pyrolysis bio-oil, lignin, and coal. I also am experienced in air sensitive and pyrophoric materials synthesis. Further, I am a member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers. Recently I founded a consulting business to continue utilizing my problem solving skills.
