Dynamic, agile and efficient. Those are 3 concepts that have always intrigued me. I’ve always enjoyed finding ways to optimize a process, whether it’s finding a way to make a Jenkins pipeline run a few minutes faster, or trying to convince my team to work on work in smaller chunks so that we can iterate faster. Ever since I was young I’ve enjoyed seeing processes that can crank out polished work in a timely fashion and that has transitioned quite nicely into my the life as a DevOps Engineer. As a DevOps Engineer with a focus on CI/CD I spend my time trying to figure out ways for the team to get feedback more quickly. On one team I helped shorten the time required to get feedback by about 5 minutes on a build that was run sometimes dozens of times per day. I did this by rearranging the Jenkins pipeline to move one of the more error prone steps forward in the pipeline so that we could fail faster, and by optimizing one of the docker images that we used to reduce install times. All this resulted in my team members spending less time waiting on the build pipeline.Working with technology isn’t my only passion though. I love working with people.I get a great sense of fulfillment out of working with teams to figure out ways to work more effectively together and to move towards a better cadence. I love finding ways in which we could communicate better and trying to implement them. Some people may accuse me of drinking the agile Kool-Aid and I can honestly say I have without shame.
