General Manager, Growth And Portfolio Management
Current
General Manager, Data And Ai
I lead IBM's Data and AI business unit, which is dedicated to helping clients become data-driven in everything they do. I oversee its P&L, operations, strategy, products, support, services, marketing, and sales. Data and AI is home to Watson, Cloud Pak for Data, Planning Analytics + Cognos, OpenPages, Db2, Netezza, DataStage, and Informix. My team and I are all in, all the time. I live in Austin, TX. #Hookem
Vice President, Data And Ai
I oversaw all products for the company's Data and AI business. My responsibilities included the strategy, roadmap, and overall business performance for the division's products. In three and a half years, we returned the business to strong growth, produced over $1.25 billion via new offerings, simplified our portfolio by 40%, introduced a new subscription business model, and raised NPS by over 25% each year across all strategic offerings. We also brought bleeding-edge innovation from IBM's Research labs to the market faster than ever, including AI that builds AI and critical technologies underpinning Project Debator. Those contributions helped make IBM the worldwide market share leader in AI for three consecutive years, according to IDC. Other major product introductions include IBM Cloud Pak for Data, the Hortonworks, Mongo, Actifio, and Trifacta partnerships, and several offerings that have won Red Dot Awards for Design.
Director Of Product Management, Data And Ai
I led the Unified Governance & Integration portfolio, which transformed into the DataOps portfolio and is known for InfoSphere, Watson Knowledge Catalog, Master Data Management, Optim, and StoredIQ. We grew the business, attracted hundreds of new clients, and modernized the portfolio through containers & K8s. Most proud of the co-development we did with our very best clients like ING.
Director Of Product Management, Analytics
Our mission was to help developers build great apps using data and built-in analytics. We launched a complete suite of services that allow developers and data scientists to tap into open source projects like Apache Spark and Jupyter notebooks with no hassle. We completely changed our culture, revamped our toolchain and processes, attracted the best and brightest in and outside of IBM, and scaled out a portfolio of over a dozen data & analytic services. And helped our clients sleep better at night.
Program Director Of Product Management, Enterprise Content Management
I had overall responsibility for the strategy, product management, & business performance of the Enterprise Content Management division's Content portfolio. It was ranked #1 by Gartner, represented over a 1/3 of the division's revenue, and included FileNet, CM8, Content Navigator, Daeja, and System Monitor. I led an expert team of offering and product managers. In less than a year, we introduced two new SaaS offerings and several releases of our core franchises. Additionally, we simplified and improved the portfolio messaging, expanded our digital presence, and transitioned to DevOps.
Integration Executive, Storediq An Ibm Company
I was nominated as the IBM executive responsible for the StoredIQ acquisition. My mission was to execute the acquisition's business case, integration strategy, and business objectives established by IBM's M&A and divisional executives. I led a team of over 30 M&A professionals with exceptional talent & deep M&A know-how. In less than 10 months, StoredIQ overachieved on all of its financial and integration objectives. It grew revenue by 6X, accreted profit much faster than plan, maintained its rate of innovation with 3 key releases, fully integrated into IBM back office systems, and retained 100% of its top talent. In that same period, it exceeded its financial business case by 240%, met 95% of its 2 year integration objectives, tripled its customer base, more than doubled its workforce, and became the second best acquisition comparable on quantifiable metrics in the division's history. By its 1 year anniversary, it moved headquarters and met 100% of the integration objectives, which was 6 months ahead of schedule. Since then the acquisition is on track to grow its revenue by more than 10X its pre-acquisition revenue before it's 2 year anniversary and play a vital role in our Big Data and Enterprise Content Management future.
Program Director, Emerging Technologies, Smarter Cities
My mission was to build a worldwide team and division-wide initiative for identifying, designing, developing, and commercializing emerging technologies within the Smarter Cities division. My team imagined, built and delivered geospatial and analytic products & services that cities such as Minneapolis, Miami, Southbend, and Boston are using to optimize their operations, improve decision making, and make their cities safer. Additionally, we created a fact-based methodology to analyze and prioritize promising technologies built by other IBM divisions including Research. Using this methodology, dozens of product and solution innovations were incubated in the field, validated by partners & clients and commercialized into leading Smarter Cities products and cloud services.
Program Director, Strategy And M&A
Served as the product management and development leader of a high performing team of M&A and divisional professionals and executives responsible for identifying, selecting, and formulating strategies for acquiring leading companies in select markets. Identified, researched, and analyzed dozens of potential acquisitions. Led or participated in the development of acquisition strategies & business cases of over a dozen target companies, many of which were approved by the IBM M&A board. Led three due diligences including i2's, which was acquired in 2011.
Sr. Product Manager, Infosphere Traceability Server
InfoSphere Traceability Server was a startup business within IBM that was designed to track and trace any uniquely identifiable object anywhere in the world. The platform was used by many of the largest pharmaceutical, consumer goods, and industrial companies to reduce counterfeits, improve supply chain visibility and to comply with regulations. My job was to establish and execute on its applications and platform strategy & roadmap. I worked tirelessly with clients and industry partners to align the product with buyer needs. In the end, we built and scaled the business from the ground up and grew its revenue by 600% in less than two years. I also represented IBM in standards bodies including GS1 as a co-editor of one of its workgroups.
Director Of Engineering
GlobeRanger, acquired by Fujitsu, was originally founded to help companies optimize their supply chain operations through wireless technologies. In my role as Director of Engineering, we flipped the company to focus completely on building a complete RFID and sensor platform. The team designed and built a powerful edge device management and process management platforms that dramatically simplified RFID device configuration & management as well as application & process development and deployment. And an extremely popular simulation environment that developers and deployment engineers used to emulate physical infrastructure in a desktop environment. GlobeRanger found product/market fit and won several large RFID contracts including with the Department of Logistics Agency.
Product Development Manager
GlobeRanger, acquired by Fujitsu, was originally founded to help companies optimize their supply chain operations through wireless technologies. While it stayed true to its mission, its technology & product focus evolved over the 7 years I was there. In my role as Product Development Manager, we completed our transition to building mobile applications that were designed to optimize field service operations. The team and I designed and built a highly scalable mobile data gateway that collected telemetry and application data, a mobile platform that included innovative replication technology, and several applications that allowed field workers to get work done remotely and collaborate with headquarter staff to manage reschedules and re-routing.
Sr. Software Engineer
GlobeRanger, acquired by Fujitsu, was founded to help companies optimize their supply chain operations through wireless technologies. The two initial products were eLocate, a platform for tracking assets using mobile and GPS technology, and eSee, a visual analytics platform that used feature extraction to track inventory levels and field activities. My job was to help build the platform, infrastructure, and process from the ground up as lead architect, designer and developer. The technologies we built in the early days morphed into iMotion, GlobeRanger's future platform.
