How does one best sum up what they are all about, in 2,600 characters? Here is my attempt: Aged 13, I lined-up for my local club, Torslanda IK (Gothenburg, Sweden). I was starting as a Striker, a slightly new and odd position for someone who had previously predominantly played as a Winger. Despite the slightly different environment I found myself in, I excelled, securing a hat-trick before half-time. In typically Swedish fashion, my coaches moved me to Centre Back for the second half, in their attempt to even out the game. Unfortunately for them, I scored another two goals in the second half, missing out on a double hat-trick when my coaches asked me to let someone else take a penalty – a request I was happy to grant for the benefit of my teammates. Why is this story relevant?In my opinion, this game suitably summarises my character and working career. Like the years of football training leading up to that match, I too have prepared for the world of work by securing a 1st class Business Management degree and a Masters in Luxury Brand Management. My career has since seen me take on exciting challenges in an equally versatile manner, occupying several different roles at four different companies, namely; The Exclusive Hotels Group, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Carnival UK and IG Group. Whilst these companies operate in different industries, there is an underlying trait that connects them all; they all have a very strong claim to be the best at what they do. This trait is what appeals to me, the desire of a company to be the industry-leader. My role? To play my part in helping the company realise this ambition. Just like football, work is a team sport. This team is normally diverse, spread across the world and full of lots of different cultures and personalities. It is in this environment that I feel most at home, considering myself a product of an international upbringing, having lived in several different countries and attended an International School. Like any great football team, a vital component for success is an inspirational Captain who is respected and can motivate those around them to perform at their best. This ‘Captain’ role, is one I am very comfortable in – especially within a diverse team.In summary, whilst age may have reduced my ability to go and score 5 goals for your company football team, my character today remains true to that of the 13 year-old Daniel. I'm a confident and versatile individual, capable of successfully taking on a challenge, effectively improving and harnessing the ability of those around me.
