I established Onelife Financial shortly after immigrating to l Australia in May 2009. Australia was just beginning to emerge from the depths of the GFC so as you can imagine this did not make for a smooth start. The business initially kicked off with AMP as our licensee and in then moved over to Synchron where we have been authorised representatives since May 2011.Onelife offers a fully comprehensive financial planning service; we have a vast array of clients varying from small business owners to professionals and retirees. The clients we most enjoy working with are those that are wholly engaged in the process where we can have a meaningful impact on many aspects of their finances and build deep long lasting bonds often turning into friendships.

After four years of working as a Financial Planner for The Liberty Group, I established HDO Financial Design alongside two partners.The change from working as a tied agent at Liberty to having our own Financial Services License was a welcome breath of fresh air. We now had the freedom to offer our clients a significantly greater choice of products from varying Life insurers, Investment houses and Medical Aids. I continued to build on the experience I gained from Liberty and was able to grow the business by nurturing existing relationships and establishing many new ones. One of my primary interests became the field of Business Insurance; I enjoyed learning the complexities of this specialised field and working with like-minded business people to ensure smooth continuity of their businesses under any circumstances. The key driver to our business success was the establishment of many new process and procedures which offered our clients an exceptional customer experience and allowed the business to run at capacity.

Returning to Johannesburg after 3.5 years of studying and working in Sydney, I found myself at a job Interview with Liberty Life. Liberty was then the second largest insurer in South Africa and it was the first time I had been exposed to the financial services industry. Following a psychometric evaluation and a couple of interviews I was offered a role and was excited to embark on my new career as a Financial Planner. I underwent a 3-month intensive training program after which the new recruits were housed together at Liberties Head Office in Braamfontein. This was both an exciting and scary time for me as Libert did not provide us with any salary and it was a case of sink or swim. Starting out with friends and family I began to build new client relationships; it was very inspiring as I learnt how to complete in-depth fact finds, analyse my client's financial positions and make appropriate recommendations. As my confidence grew, I began to receive numerous awards for hitting and exceeding my sales targets.
