Acknowledged leader in development of operator interface solutions for surface ship combat systems. Reviews and assesses contractor proposals and designs. Studies future design alternatives and provide recommendations to Navy leadership. Develops sailor training solutions, integrating existing software products with simulations and support systems. - Created front end web interface to training system, combining REST interface to communications, simulation, and video recording services with homegrown status monitoring using Angular.js.- Lead effort to integrate existing Combat System Displays into representative training system. The legacy software had to run on virtualized, state of the art workstations with simulated external systems. Joined the project with unrealistic budget, schedule, and technical expectations. Assessed project’s needs, problems, and poor assumptions. Briefed customer on findings and provided options for way forward. This info was the basis for a project re-plan into three spirals of deliveries that was achievable technically and financially. Project is currently succeeding on schedule and budget with first spiral products complete.- Defined architecture for coordination of multiple radars to meet combat system needs. Understand current system message and control flows, determine/document changes needed, cost and provide tradeoffs for integrating new functionality into legacy system. This work is the basis for combat system software currently under development.- Led team performing technical evaluation of proposals for major, multi-million dollar combat system acquisition. Evaluated each proposal against detailed requirements and briefed recommendations to Navy leadership. Evaluation effort and products are considered the model for Naval System competitive acquisitions. Saved the Navy an estimated $400 million.

Acted as Navy integrated product team representative on development projects for command and control and combat display systems. Brought extensive software engineering experience to combat systems engineering team. Consulted for Program Executive Office, providing technical review and collaborative inputs into specification, design, and testing of systems. Found ways to develop and share architectures and software components across combat systems to reduce cost and improve productivity.- Integrated product to automate entry of information from air tasking order messages into associated information in the command and control system. Worked with component developer and combat system integrator to define scope, integration points, develop solution, produce a capability demonstration, and deploy capability onto a ship in months (capabilities for surface ships traditionally take ~3 years to deploy). - Led 3 month study to determine viability of Model Driven Development in combat system development. Redesigned resource management component of Aegis command and control element using Telelogic Rhapsody. Integrated new component into legacy software in system environment. Published white paper with results. Briefed results to Navy Operations leadership.- Consulted with Aegis system integrator on the re-architecture of Aegis display systems. The display system was componentized and modernized using publish-subscribe middleware and SAF-compliant resource management.

Lead a team of software developers responsible for maintenance and integration of real time system middle-ware for U.S. Navy weapon systems. Review design and code for the AEGIS middle-ware software providing resource control, inter-process communication, system time services, and various I/O interfaces to AEGIS applications.Developed a distributed, multi-platform application to test a distributed data-recording program. Application used TCP/IP sockets, XDR, and an X/Motif Graphical User Interface. Solved problems in C and Ada programs providing process and I/O control, inter-process communication, TCP/IP network control and management, and system time services.

Developed AIX distributed system software and graphical user interfaces for a network of RS6000's to track and analyze satellites for US Naval Space Command at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA. Programs involved use of Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) and Motif/X Windows graphical user interfaces (GUI).

Directed development of reusable system service components for use across several US Army business applications. Responsible for analyzing, selecting, and integrating, AIX development tools for the SBIS contract.

Responsible for requirements definition, design, code and integration of factory test programs for the Space Station Freedom Data Management System (essentially a network of space-hardened PS/2's). Ported a SCSI fixed disk drive functional test program and device drivers from a proprietary environment to OS/2 in C. Developed FDDI adapter factory test program.
