I have been tasked with enhancing the value M&S derives from technology innovation and developing an innovation framework for the business. Current programmes are focused on AI, working with partners to build AI solutions in procurement, energy control, theft prevention, and optimizing digital marketing spend.Before this I headed up M&S’ Digital Stores programme for three years where I built and ran a team of 12 that introduced a ‘rapid test and learn’ culture to M&S retail (60 trials, 20 of which moved to business-as-usual teams). Previously I ran Partnerships for the M&S Digital & Data team which has landed 20 long-term partnerships (netting £29m in bottom-line benefit in three years) and invested in 18 early-stage retail-focused start-ups with the Founders Factory. Extensive experience in corporate communications underpins my work in innovation (nine years in the M&S corporate communications team and six in the Woolworths media team). As a result communication skills, stakeholder management, c-suite level engagement and understanding of corporate strategy are key components of my work. Work with Ocado Retail, B&Q, Harley-Davidson, and Volkswagen UK completes an extensive career at large, publicly accountable corporates and consumer facing businesses. I am also a proud Man of Kent, have two amazing daughters, love football, cricket, and music. Can mostly be found at Priestfield stadium or at a 90s indie revival gig.
