"DONATE TO THE HAITI RECONSTRUCTION FUND" announced a little white box adorning my Kindergarten class' windowsill. And so I did. I had a basic understanding of the disaster; I watched the news with my parents and was informed by my teacher, even at five years old. Yet, though as if intrinsically compelled, I donated my money.In High School, I focused more time and energy on my love of geopolitics and international development. I created an apparatus, deemed a "Fog Harp", to collect potable water from water vapor in the air for use in countries without sufficient ways to obtain groundwater. I petitioned Senators and other federal government officials to reform visa requirements for the Visa Waiver Program to create a fairer system. I compiled a decade worth of data on visa denials per nation to highlight each administration's biases within the international system. I worked as hard as I could to bring positive change on both domestic and international levels.Today, I am a first-year at the Georgia Institute of Technology, pursuing a B.S. in International Affairs. As I start my time here, I ask myself three things: How I can further improve myself? How can I continue to make a difference? Why will the world be better off with me? The field of International Affairs is quite vast, and my path is undetermined. Yet, no matter what, I strive to serve my community: our world.
