I am a movement disorders neurologist and translational scientist conducting research at Emory University. My research focuses on the development of MRI and molecular biomarkers for Parkinson's disease. I work closely with the MRI neuroscience laboratory of Xiaoping Hu, PhD. An overarching goal of our work is development of biomarkers that may be used to detect Parkinson's disease before symptoms develop and to monitor progression of disease. Potential applications of these biomarkers include early detection, selection of patients for clinical trials, use as outcome measures, therapeutic target identification and use as companion diagnostics. I have chosen this translational niche because, as a physician-scientist, I pursue neuroscience research with a commitment to improve patients' lives.
