The EduTreff (Edu = education, Treff = meeting place) is a local tutoring college for K-12 and adult education. The company adapted some structures as they are known from community colleges besides the traditional task of a tutoring college for young people. Coaching young people and adults to enhance their knowledge and obtaining better test results for their professional diplomas is one main goal. More about the EduTreff at http://www.edutreff.de

The scientific part of the work is related to physical modeling and data analyzing of high latitude ionospheric phenomena and their disturbances on GNSS radio communication. For this also ionospheric heating experiments (artificial HF heating) at the EISCAT facilities in Norway were performed together with GNSS/EISCAT measurements. The work gave the opportunity of lecturing at national and international summer schools, the Carl Cranz Gesellschaft and supervising student graduation thesis's. This granted a close collaboration to the near by Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences. The major part of the work is related to project managing and project acquisition. My project responsibilities are in ESA SSA SN-1, the EU FP-7 ESPAS infrastructure project (+ Steering Board Committee) as WP lead or as DLR WP lead. Within ESA SSA SN-1 I am head of the expert service center ionosphere. Besides the major projects I am responsible for various smaller DLR internal projects related to ionospheric disturbance (SID) monitoring and the development of advanced broadband SID monitors. On top of the daily work outreach activities are required. That involved local organizing committee work for the yearly DLR – Huntsville University Space Science Summer Camp as well as being the national representative of the International Space Weather Initiative. As such chairing various sessions on scientific meetings is required.

The work involved the development of new space test-standards, planning and development of space simulation division specific know-how as well as setting up, increasing and maintaining a know-how data base.An other aim of the work was the scientific and technological supervision of space test simulation campaigns as well as their acquisition (scientific advisor to the acquisition management). Also the support of the technical and scientific development of thermal-vacuum facilities, space test simulation set-ups and facility components. As a research work the development of a mathematical thermal-model for a 2m thermal-vacuum chamber as well as a the development of a bake-out test unit for analysis of out-gasing processes at ambient conditions were performed. For this purpose we were using Multiphysics software (MatLab clone) and ESA TAN & RAD for the CAD applications. I was trained specially for ESA TAN & RAD CAD IT-tools.Daily duties were involving space test simulations and project managing. I was the project lead from iABG of an ESA study (ESA ARTES Programs > 250T€) and the involved networking to subcontractors. Also supervision of trainees and graduate students and their thesis works were my responsibilities. With them we were studying the Fibre-Bragg Grating method (a sub-nano-meter precise optical measurement method) and its application for space test simulations. The work environment at iABG mbh was quality controlled after ISO 9001 and ESA ECTS Standards. I had to participate regularly at audits to keep up this standard level.
  • Geophysical Institute - University Of Alaska Fairbanks

Geophysical Institute - University Of Alaska Fairbanks May 2006 - Feb 2008
The major research interests were modeling of ionospheric processes related to the auroral phenomena and multi-instrument studies of small-scale auroral structures. In this current work I investigated the physics of vertical and horizontal neutral winds above auroral filaments located in the auroral oval. This work is related to magnetospheric-ionospheric coupling plasma processes.

Investigating special tasks related to physical metallurgy of stainless steels. Development of simple and ready-to-use applications for industrial measurements related to quality demands of stainless steels (software to analyze electron microscope data). Analyzing failures of industrial rolling tools and corrosion problems arising with the products. Development of a new ferrite stainless steel grade by modifying the development processes. The work was performed fully in an ISO 9001 certified environment with strict quality and safety regulations. Further external classes in metallurgy and steel manufacturing (hit rolling) were completed.

    Project Manager
    Siikalatvan R&D Centre, Sep 2004 - Jun 2005
The project was based on an EU project to explore and develop the remote region of Rantsila in northern Finland. The main aim was to rise more science activities (e.g. Astronomy) for science interested nature tourist from all over the world.
  • University Of Oulu
    Phd Student
    University Of Oulu 1997 - 2005
As a Ph.D. student at Oulu University I had no permanent funding and was therefore working and teaching part time. In 2000 I was awarded an annual grand from the Finnish Academy of Sciences and Letters. Despite the obvious disadvantages of these long studies a broad working experience in academia was archived. The teaching duties were mainly advising students laboratory works and exercises as well as lecturing assistant in experimental physics. The teaching was done on demand in Finnish or English. The research work was focused on space physics and especially auroral physics. The main aim of the work was related to auroral fine structures investigated from ground and space in-situ (sounding rocket and satellite). I was participating the Auroral Turbulence II sounding rocket experiment, several Finnish EISCAT measurement campaigns as well as field measurements related to riometric measurements. All these works were the foundation for my Ph.D. thesis work.
