About Daniel Reeve
Innovative Application Engineer with 8+ years of experience in designing and deploying DDC controls for building automation. I help companies utilize automation to improve the efficiency and productivity of mechanical systems. I’m a staunch believer in energy efficiency and green technology. I’ve been involved in every stage of a controls project including estimating, engineering, programming, installation, and commissioning. Nothing has taught me more than trying to install my own designs. Some examples of my results are:• Designed, project managed, and commissioned a control system for a 24,000 square foot LEED Gold K-12 science building• Streamlined panel design and fabrication with improved company standards and modernized AutoCAD drafting techniques• Programmed custom dashboards in SkySpark that could be deployed on multiple projects • Guided difficult projects to successful completion with effective communication and project management• Spearheaded company migration to cloud storageI love learning new control systems and programming languages. Looking to expand my network of people working in the automation industry and energy engineering. Technical Skills: Niagara | SkySpark | VBA | Axon | Microsoft Office Suite | Honeywell Spyder | Honeywell Spyder 5 | Honeywell CIPer | Siemens ABT | Siemens DXR

Learning Assistant And Study Group Facilitator
Starting in my sophomore year and throughout the remainder of my undergraduate studies I was employed by the Seattle University Mathematics department as a Learning Assistant and Study Group Facilitator. This was a brand new program developed with the intent of increasing the pass rate of students going through the three quarter long Calculus series. The program consisted of two major pieces; the weekly study group, and the pre-test oral reviews. The weekly study groups provided a location for students to meet and discuss class material while a facilitator was available to assist as needed. Pre-test oral reviews were small groups, usually between three and five students, that would meet for an hour to review conceptual concepts covered by the upcoming exam. The focus on oral reviews was not on solving problems, but on understanding the concepts being tested. During these review sessions I would play the part of Socrates, presenting the group new and unique questions meant to stimulate critical thinking. This position required me to have a definitive enough grasp on the entire Calculus series to be able to assist students beyond just solving problems, but more importantly understanding the concepts presented. Through this position I gained experience presenting complicated mathematical ideas to groups of students with a wide variety of learning styles and stages of understanding. At the beginning of my Junior year I was promoted to the position of Lead Learning Assistant. As the Lead Learning Assistant, along with running my own study groups and oral reviews I also was tasked with managing the status of the oral reviews for all of the other calculus classes going on at the same time. It was my job to make sure that oral reviews were scheduled early enough for rooms to be reserved and a sign up sheet produced and made available to students. From this position I learned to manage multiple groups operating independently of each other.
Research Assistant
Starting in the summer of 2012, I joined Dr. Teodora Rutar Shuman on her research into the development of a continuous flow algae dewatering device. Micro algae cells have the potential to become a renewable resource for biodiesel production because of their high lipid concentration. Difficulties arise though in separating the 2 to 3 micrometer long cells from the liquid medium that they are grown in. Various processes, such as centrifugation and chemical coagulation, have been proposed and tested as potential processes for overcoming this difficulty. None though have been good enough to justify commercial application. Our research goal was to investigate the potential to utilize a process known as Electro-Coagulation-Flocculation in a continuous flow application. Electro-Coagulation-Flocculation is a technique in which a DC current is passed through two parallel metal electrodes submerged in a liquid medium. This results in the creation of metal hydroxide molecules that neutralize and enmesh the algae cells and float to the surface or fall to the bottom of the liquid solution. In previous summers, Dr. Shuman had built and tested a batch reactor. In the batch reactor, an individual would pour a small amount of algae solution into the device, apply a controlled DC current, and then remove the algae solution for separation to occur. This lab based device allowed for the concept to be fully tested in a controlled and monitored environment.Once the concept had been proven, our next focus was on developing a continuous flow device. The continuous flow device treated a solution while the solution flowed through the device at a constant and controlled flow rate. This step was crucial to the research as it provided the next phase towards developing a device that could be utilized in an industrial application. Over the course of my involvement with the project we developed the first continuous flow device, test apparatus, and test procedure.
Engineering Intern
Between the months of July 2013 and November 2013 I had the pleasure of working as an engineering intern at Olympus Respiratory America. I worked closely with Brandon Shuman, a Senior Design Engineer, on a radio-frequency ablation device. The goal of our device was to attach cancer cells located in the lungs using a very focused, controlled, and non-evasive process. At the start of my internship Brandon Shuman had already built and tested a functional prototype, but there were a multitude of design hurdles that still needed to be overcome. While at Olympus almost all of my time was spent in the design lab building test apparatuses and prototypes. This position was an extraordinary opportunity for me as it gave me my first real experience as an employed engineer on a research and development project. While at Olympus, I developed the ability to recognize what wasn’t operating as expected and more importantly, why. When the explanation for the incomplete operation wasn’t obvious, I ran controlled experiments to determine what the explanation was. Once in view, I could then begin the process of brainstorming potential solutions, eventually working the proposed concepts down to a realistic number of theories that could themselves be tested. At this point I would determine a manufacturing process to build prototypes representing each proposed solution and a test procedure to evaluate each solution. This entire process would conclude in a single tested and proven solution that could then be applied to the design as a whole.
