The Digital Lab is an integrated unit of BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia’s Department of Pediatrics. Our mission is to improve the lives of pediatric patients and their families through digital innovation and technology. Since launching in 2016, the unit has evolved into a diverse interdisciplinary team of 40+ staff and students with a shared passion for exploring the potential that exists at the crossroads of technology and healthcare. We develop bespoke software, mobile apps, websites, media, games, and advanced simulations, as well as lead innovative clinical engineering programs within the hospital that leverage emerging technologies such as 3D printing and virtual reality. Underpinning our efforts is a robust research program that focuses on new technology development, patient-centered design, economic evaluation, and outcomes research associated with the products and services we provide. Our research is published in leading journals related to our fields.
