About Daniel Hageman, Phd 🔶
Dan completed his Bachelors of Science in Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in 2014 and his PhD in the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of New South Wales in 2019. There, he worked under principal investigator Dr. Melissa Knothe Tate in the area of Mechanobiology. Dan's thesis included clinical investigation into engineering techniques to optimize treatment for breast cancer survivors afflicted with lymphedema. His close work with patients fueled much of his passion for practical 'bed-side' research that he sees as a critical aspect to maximizing efficiency of conducted healthcare research. Following his current post-doctoral work where he continued his research in academia, Dan sought to build off his passion for medical growth and dissemination, medical device efficacy, and effective philanthropy. Hence, Dan transitioned into a field-based industry role at Bristol-Myers Squibb within the Division of Oncology, and after 4 years transitioned to Johnson & Johnson, leading various projects as a Senior MSL in Lung Oncology. In such a role, he has the opportunity to utilize his communicative skills in a clinical environment and maximize his contribution/impact to healthcare development.Dan is an active advocate of Effective Altruism and member of the Giving What We Can Community, looking to spread these ideals and do the most good in his own personal career. Dan is a self-proclaimed information junkie, and fills the majority of his free time reading and soaking in various podcast material, particularly within the realms of philosophy, ethics, and the theoretical sciences.Dan dislikes bios written in the third person as if they weren't written by the first person.
