The thing I love most about my business is the constant rush I get from solving legal problems for clients — sometimes extremely complicated and intricate problems resembling tricky puzzles, or requiring courage like facing down a bully — and the joy I get when the issue is resolved in my client’s favor.I founded DMG (now MGS) in 1995 on the principle that attorneys should represent clients' businesses as if they were representing their own. I was lucky enough to have begun my career as an in-house trial attorney at a Fortune 500 target defendant company. I gained unparalleled experience, with great mentorship from a very early age, preparing and first chairing jury trials. I’ve been doing it ever since, and it never gets old. The best result for every case is not necessarily a jury trial. That said, my clients appreciate that I have tried and won more jury cases in the heavily targeted railroad industry than any other defense attorney in Chicago — the nation’s railroad hub and a well-known “judicial hell-hole”. Our clients are frequently heavy industries and transportation companies, so it’s not uncommon that I get to wear steel toed boots and a hard hat while visiting client sites. It’s very fun. In addition to my time as an in-house lawyer, I held a two-year executive role in my transportation company’s operating department. These positions gave me special insight and empathy for the challenges facing business management. We’ve represented large and small businesses nationwide at DMG for nearly 27 years, and the thrill I get from helping relieve the stress of business managers and owners caused by lawsuits has never wavered. It’s what gets me up in the morning! I also love mentoring younger lawyers and leading in my profession, such as through coaching trial skills at the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel (NARTC) Annual Trial College for the past dozen years and by serving as its President. In my free time, I attend live music events, cycle, ski and do triathlons. I’m also very interested in cancer research and raising funds in support. I enjoy representing clients nationwide and am licensed to practice in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. My focus areas include:Casualty and Business Litigation | FELA | Catastrophic Injury, Toxic Tort and Wrongful Death | Whistle Blower including FRSA |Employment Disputes
