Daniel Park Work Experience Details
  • Broad Institute
Sr Group Leader, Viral Computational Genomics
Broad Institute Aug 2013 - Present
    Cambridge, Ma
I lead the efforts for computational methods development and analysis for viral genomics. I facilitate several scientific collaborations around Ebola virus genomic analyses. I lead the implementation of portable computational genomic pipelines for use in Africa. I mentor and supervise a number of graduate students in their viral research projects.
  • Harvard University
    Doctoral Candidate
    Harvard University Sep 2010 - Jul 2013
    Cambridge, Ma
Sabeti Lab, Dept of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. My research uses population genomics to understand the evolution of drug resistance in the malaria parasite. I conducted one of the first parasite-based genome-wide association studies and developed a novel approach that combined selection and association methods to identify parasite adaptations to antimalarials. This research is a continuation of work at my previous job and was conducted in the malaria genetics group at the Broad Institute. Thesis defended: July 15, 2013
  • Broad Institute
    Software Engineer
    Broad Institute Sep 2006 - Aug 2010
    Cambridge, Ma
Microbial annotation informatics group and malaria genetics group. I developed software and analysis techniques for polymorphism (SNP, indel, CNV) discovery from traditional and next-generation sequencing data for the Broad’s Microbial Sequencing Center. I designed and developed SNP genotyping microarrays and validation techniques for two malaria (P. falciparum) arrays and one mosquito (A. gambiae) array. I also supported the general informatic and analysis needs of the malaria genetics group.
  • Massachusetts General Hospital
    Bioinformatics Specialist
Massachusetts General Hospital Jan 2003 - Aug 2006
    Cambridge, Ma
DNA Microarray Core Facility. As the sole computational member of the microarray core, I acted as informatic/statistical consultant, software engineer, and data analyst. I provided analysis training and experiment design consultation to dozens of client researchers, directed internal R&D to vet new lab technologies, protocols, and analysis techniques, and developed software for microarray data analysis and management.
  • Mit
    Masters Candidate
    Mit Jun 2001 - Sep 2002
    Cambridge, Ma
Keating Lab, Dept. of Biology. As the first student in this nascent lab (started in 2001), I developed software for in silico protein design, implementing a variety of published approaches, and creating new parallelized algorithms that enable researchers to design proteins for target-specific binding. This code base became the foundation of the computational toolkit of this protein lab.
