Retail Network Manager

Docklands, Victoria, Au

I sought out this role as an opportunity to leverage my skills in insights, analytics and strategy to set the direction for the Shell branded service station network, working on executing new business model opportunities and optimizing our existing asset base. My day-to-day job includes reviewing & modelling new site acquisitions, developing and presenting investment proposals to senior managers, collaborating with various teams to gain insights as to how we might improve existing sites, and analysing the performance of the existing network. Some achievements I am proud of in this role include: • Delivering more than 20 new site leases in New South Wales & Victoria, bringing a projected incremental ~$160 million cash flow per annum.• Developing a new model that provided the business with a step change in its ability to forecast margins at new sites, improving business case forecast accuracy. • Working with several partners across the organisation to deliver a brand new business model, the first Commission Agent retail sites in the Viva Energy portfolio. • Shaping the strategic direction of the Shell Retail business with high quality board papers including a 5 year direction for the New South Wales portfolio.

Commercial Marketing Manager

Docklands, Victoria, Au

Following the sale of Shell's downstream assets to Vitol and the creation of Viva Energy Australia, I was promoted to a Commercial Leadership Team position, leading a team of marketing specialists in driving the end-to-end marketing program for the Mining, Marine, Wholesale & Dealer Ownedfuel market sectors. This role involved conducting a 'reset' and developing new insight-led strategies to take a more agile and aggressive organisation forward in growing our market share in the commercial sectors. Using a number of strategy toolkits and processes and engaging with sales teams, customers and experts, I developed innovative new 5 year strategies for three sectors, which were endorsed by senior leadership. These strategies included new ways of segmenting our markets, documenting customer pains and gains, proposals for strategic acquisitions, and detailed five year financial projections. • In six months I delivered ‘turnaround’ business strategies for four Commercial Sectors (Mining, Wholesale Fuels, Marine and Dealer Owned Retail sectors), endorsed by executive leadership.• Drawing in insights from focus groups, customer interviews and quantitative data, I developed a new needs-based market segmentation model for business-to-business fuel sectors• Identifying that senior management was unable to have robust discussions around variance to plan and root causes, I developed and trained the business unit on a new pipeline tracking system to provide s significantly improved visibility of progress against plan and identify potential pain points

Based on my demonstrated success in providing robust analysis, quick issue identification and high quality communications, I was approached by senior management to head up a brand new team tasked with driving insight-led decision making within the organisation. The mandate I developed for the team was to be the central hub for five activities: Market Sizing & Share Analysis, Market Research, Marketing Planning & Performance Measurement, Marketing Analytics and Market Intelligence. In addition to this I was also tasked with leading Shell's first new major fuel product launch in Australia in more than ten years, owing to my understanding and experience of all three of the elements required for the success of this project: Marketing, Finance and Supply Chain Management. This project involved leading a team of ~10 people in conducting quantitative and qualitative market research to understand our market potential, developing a comprehensive business model, negotiating with our Alliance partner, and coordinating both national supply chain preparedness activities as well as a multi-platform marketing and communications program. • Developed go-to-market strategy for Shell’s first new consumer fuel brand in Australia in more than a decade• Supported Viva Energy’s acquisition of the Liberty fuels business• Developed key white papers and other position documents to support board level decision making• Responsibility for planning and allocation of company-wide marketing budget
