For my efforts to ALTC, I was awarded with an Army Silver Commendation. I was also tasked as the Internal change agent of my organisation charged with the responsibility of facilitating change and organisational development. The ‘Defence One’ or ‘D1’ is a HR project that will create a new people system for the Department of Defence. It is set to roll out in two tranches, the first being in February 2014 and the second in August 16. D1 will contribute to Defence capability by improving the sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness of Defence’s people management systems. The reason behind the change is the need to modernise the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) HR systems and to bring the ADF in line with best practice standards in HR.My role was that as an Internal Change Agent (Transitional Enabler). My organisation was comprised of five Army schools with a headquarter element totaling 535 staff, catering for over 1300 trainees at any given time. In May 2014, I had been directed by my Officer Commanding to be an ‘informal’ D1 change implementation manager, a task I had to undertake as an individual, with no team assistance available. I had found early in this stage of readiness that my focus had to be at the individual level rather than group level. Personally, I found that it is more productive to relay information to an individual as a change agent, being that the D1 project is not yet rolled out. Show less

This role allowed me further exposure to working in a multi national environment and a better understanding of working with different cultures. This role did have its more serious side of actively working under pressure in a war zone and at times, this was quite apparent. Nevertheless, a very rewarding role to assist and help the people of Afghanistan. Show less

His personal commitment and dedication to duty were first class. His approach to his ADF/United Nations role demonstrated a strong understanding of the reasons as to why the United Nations was supporting South Sudan. Although Daniel was one of the more junior members (in rank) of the Australian Contingent his output was greater than many of the team with more senior rank. He was highly respected by all of the Australian Contingent and he was considered by his broader United Nations compatriots as a person to go to ‘when the job needed to get done’.Daniel set an example to others with his additional commitments and also provided significant support and assistance to one of the local orphanages . In terms of Daniel’s ability to work with others, he proved himself to be an example to other contingent members with regard to his ability to work across a diverse UN team with over 50 countries being represented. His interaction across this group, along with locally employed civilians and the general populace, demonstrated his superior ability to relate and get the best out of people. Daniel’s sensitivity to the plight of the local community and his willingness to help those less fortunate provided an example for our other contingent members to follow. He was highly respected by other contingent members, the broader United Nations workers and locals alike.Daniel was an integral and essential part of the contingent and a role model to all."
