I am currently Head of PR and Social Media for the Royal College of General Practitioners, a senior management role with responsibility for development of strategic communications - and operational delivery of that strategy through tangible outputs - press office management (reactive and proactive media, budget and HR), reputational management, crisis communications, social media strategy, and building and managing relationships with stakeholders, partners and journalists. I have editorial and budgetary responsibility for producing the RCGP’s member magazine three times a year.I have close to a decade’s experience leading on high profile media campaigns that achieve the RCGP’s strategic objective of being the voice of general practice through high-profile communications work, diplomatically balancing member expectations with stakeholder relations and public perception.Prior to this, my work for Minority Rights Group International included writing the Central Asia chapter for their annual report highlighting the plight of oppressed groups around the world, and conducting research into human rights issues across Asia, Europe and Africa. I brought my interest in global development issues to the RCGP as a member of the international programme board, which aims to promote primary healthcare globally, and have worked closely with the international team to highlight projects through our communications channels.I am a proactive, organised and resilient self-starter who thrives working under pressure, juggling multiple tasks but always completing them accurately and to a high standard in an environment where no two days are ever the same. Whether it is overseeing the response to a Government announcement, dealing with the fall-out of a ‘Twitterstorm’, advising a member of our Executive Management team, liaising with an external communications agency, or representing the organisation at a high-level stakeholder meeting, I always give the task my all, and always work in the best interests of the organisation I represent.
