Provides community and school-based substance abuse treatment counseling and assessment services to youth between the ages of 12 to 17.Conducts screening interviews to determine the need for AOD assessment. Conducts confidential, quality assessments to determine the appropriate level of care. Works closely with clients to engage them in the decision making process and help them understand the benefits of assessments and accessing the appropriate level of care as indicated. Provides consultation to referral resources, mentors, family members and others to help support clients in their treatment and recovery. The Prevention Youth Development Specialist II is a generalist position with a variety of duties working with teens and families on preventing Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) use. The target populations are pre-adolescents and adolescents, the parents, and professionals engaged with the teens. The services are provided in a variety of settings such as classrooms, after school facilities, community settings, churches, and in the homes. Under the supervision of the program manager, the Prevention Youth Development Specialist II will plan and deliver a prevention program in schools and assist in community exhibits for students and adults.

Collaborates and consults with regular and special education teachers and related service personnel to plan, organize, and implement specific assignments and activities in accordance with IEP goals, providing and/or modifying instruction/curriculum for the student needs.Monitors the special needs student's classroom behavior, intervening when appropriate and supporting the student while working individually or in small groups.Maintains accurate documentation of activities, student progress, and behavior modification plans.Helps design and implement communication tools that allow for good information exchange between parent and regular and special education teachers.Participates in professional development/continuing education programs as required/recommended by the Special Education Director and/or school administrator.

Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements. Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols. Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior. Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with client’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols. Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Utilize safe & appropriate handing procedures when working with clients. Maintain client confidentiality. Assist Behavior Analyst with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments. Assist Behavior Analyst in preparing client materials as instructed. Collaborate with treatment team including client, parents and caregivers and outside professionals. Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings.
