I am responsible for managing all aspects of the Law Library. These include:- Answering complex research queries received from fee-earners, mainly from the Sandton office but also from our Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Tygervalley branches.- Supporting fee-earners in the use of all available information sources.- Delivering occasional training sessions.- Attending Practice Group and other meetings to understand and contribute to the work of the practice in which the attorney is embedded.- Assessing information products and services, advising fee-earners on purchases and subscriptions.- Full responsibility for the library budget. This includes compiling the annual budget, presenting it to the CEO and the Executive Committee and obtaining approval for new projects and services.- Implementation of new products, databases and services.- Managing news and parliamentary alerts.- Editing and maintaining intranet content on SharePoint 2010.- Working with Professional Support Lawyers and the Knowledge Management team to deliver joined-up services to fee-earners.- Managing the Werksmans Art Collection by keeping the Art catalogue current for auditing purposes.- Managing the library staff members across the various branches.

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

- Legal research. Conducting research using major legal databases such as LexisNexis, Sabinet and Jutastat to find relevant legislation, cases and articles. - Current awareness. Keeping my attorneys up to date with the latest legal articles by indexing these on an Inmagic database, scanning tables of contents, distributing journals etc.- Training professional staff on all electronic databases. This included writing a new manual each year setting out search techniques step-by-step. - Maintenance of electronic databases. - Annually working out the library budget and presenting this to the Financial Director.- Managing the full lifecycle of information resources from acquisition through to weeding, including ordering books, sourcing the latest editions as well as new works on new topics.- Cataloguing new books on the Inmagic library catalogue.- Indexing of legal journal articles on Inmagic.- Updating all loose-leaf publications.- Managing the binding of journals and gazettes.- Liaising with legal and business library communities to keep abreast of new products.- All other administrative tasks.
