Ultrasound Education Coordinator
Coordinates and provides ultrasound education to rotating medical and ultrasound students and resident physicians (to include but not limited to, OB/GYN, family medicine, and radiology residents). Presents one on one ultrasound lectures to students and residents. Material covered includes: ultrasound physics, knobology, ergonomics, normal and abnormal ob/gyn cases, follow up recommendations and scanning protocols. Is responsible for maintaining and recruiting speakers for a monthly ultrasound-related presentation for continuing medical education (CME) credits. Past presentation topics have included discussions surrounding normal/abnormal fetal findings, normal/abnormal GYN findings, ergonomics, sonographer mental health, etc.
Lead Sonographer
Provided mentoring and leadership to a staff of 20 sonographers while continuing to perform tasks of Sonographer at MMP Women’s Health MFM (see below). Some duties included: managing the sonographer schedule and patient schedule day to day, assisting in the hiring of new sonographers and providing ergonomic support to the team by personally providing coverage for stretch breaks throughout the day. Projects included, but were not limited to: weekend policy for the sonographers working at the Maine Medical Center Prenatal Diagnostic Unit, guidelines for guest limits in exam rooms, 3D/4D patient education brochure and a sonography study group presentation on the importance of sonographer ergonomics. Assisted in the process of obtaining departmental accreditation through the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). Frequently asked to be the liaison for sonography students, residents and medical students when they arrived to the department as part of their clinical rotations.
Sonographer
Performed many types of obstetrical ultrasounds on high-risk patients, including dating, nuchal translucency exams, fetal surveys, fetal echocardiograms, cervical lengths, biophysical profiles and growth scans. Assisted in procedures including amniocenteses, chorionic villus sampling and OR cases. Gynecological exams performed include transabdominal and transvaginal scans, as well as assisting with sonohysterography cases. Work assignment included rotation to Boston IVF in South Portland, Maine for early obstetrical ultrasounds and follicle counts. Appointed head of the Ergonomics Committee, tasked with providing resources to fellow sonographers to help educate and reduce work related injury. Frequently entrusted to teach rotating sonography students, fellow visiting sonographers, as well as resident OB/GYNs, Urologists and Radiologists, to perform quality exams.
Per Diem Sonographer
Performed general sonographic examinations, which included abdominal, gynecological, obstetrical, small parts, vascular (to include venous leg, arm and carotid studies) and portable exams. Assisted the radiologists in procedures including paracenteses and various biopsies. Participated in a breast center rotation, where working very closely with the team of mammographers and radiologists was very important. Taught sonography students general ultrasound exams and protocols.
