I am a biologist with over 15 years of experience within marine mammal research as a volunteer, student and working biologist within various research programmes. I am experienced in field data collection, stranding response and necropsy, database management, report writing, and having overwintered on subantarctic Marion Island, I have experience working in remote areas within a small team and in harsh weather conditions. Furthermore, I am also an experienced boat-based whale-watching guide with a Category C skippers license. I recently obtained a Canadian Permanent Residency Visa and will be moving to Vancouver Island in March 2023.

Intensive monitoring of killer whale, elephant seal and fur seal populations on remote subantarctic Marion Island, often in extreme weather conditions and under physically demanding and mentally challenging conditions.• Marion killer whale work: Data collection during dedicated shore-based observations (up to 10 hours in summer) and opportunistic sightings, collection of biopsies and deployment of satellite tags with the use of a crossbow, sample processing, photo-identification, data entry, database management, equipment maintenance and report writing.• Pinniped work: Data collection involved hiking far distances (up to 37 km a day) over difficult terrain for routine census work (tag resights), tagging, pup weigh, photogrammetry projects, scat collection, assistance with satellite deployments and pit tagging, collection of whiskers, fur, biopsies and blood and disentanglements. Assisted with data entry.• South African killer whale work: Recording and collating of all killer whale sightings across southern Africa between 2010 and 2021 from research vessels, collaboraters, social media and opportunistic sightings, photo identification and drafting a national catalogue.
