Danielle Cormier, Ph.D. Email and Phone Number
I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow within the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. I completed my Ph.D. specializing in Sports Psychology in the College of Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan in 2023. My research focuses on the psychological and social factors that influence athletes' sustained participation and longevity in sport. I investigate the individual differences that shape athletes' thoughts, emotions, and behaviours over time using mixed methodologies. I have two major areas of interest: (1) To understand and enhance the psychological factors (e.g., grit, self-compassion, mental toughness) that contribute to high performance athletes’ perceptions of their performance and well-being, and (2) To answer the call made by many sport organizations to build a more equitable sport system for self-identified girls and women by exploring the psychological and social mechanisms that enhance self-identified girls' positive experiences and holistic development in sport.I am incredibly passionate about encouraging a love for sport in young men and women athletes. As such, I also coach volleyball in the high school and club systems, and am a mental performance consultant for a variety of high-performance sport teams in the Canadian Prairies.
