I have always been a very passionate person and for some crazy reason, I thought my passion served me best in the nonprofit arena. For many years I championed worthy causes, getting frustrated with systems (societal and organizational) that impeded the work of the wonderful organizations in which I worked. But, most of the time, the work was so rewarding that the challenges seemed minimal. My heart swelled when a child received much-needed medical equipment that their family couldn’t afford. I loved watching students perform in a concert for the first time (and receive a standing ovation) after we helped return music to their school. And it still brings tears to my eyes when I think of the amazing grandparent that told me how her granddaughter’s life was changed the minute she walked into our school and that she now has hope for her future. So why after 17 years would I leave nonprofit? I decided, after much soul searching, to join our family business. What started as a small telecom business has blossomed into a great communications company that embraces a customer-centric philosophy and culture. There was never a doubt in my mind that I would love to be a part of an amazing company like that. It was just so hard for me to leave an industry that was part of my self-identity for so long. In my mind, I was making the world a better place. I quickly realized that I can continue to make the world a better place in my volunteer roles and in my new position. My passion is not exclusive to nonprofit and will continue to serve me well as I advocate for our customers to get the best communications services that will free up their precious time and money. I am so excited about the future of my new industry and the many wonderful changes ahead. I look forward to learning all that I can and helping people.
