Microbiologist working at the interface of science and STEM educationAs program officer and lead scientist of the HHMI Science Education Alliance Gene-function Exploration by a Network of Emerging Scientists, or SEA-GENES project, I lead a nationwide consortium of colleges and universities in a large-scale, collaborative study of bacteriophage genetics. Embedded within undergraduate curriculum, this research contributes molecular tools and published data for the advancement of phage biology and expands access to high-quality undergraduate research opportunities. I manage a team conducting research on phage-host interactions of mycobacteria and their phages. I have training and experience in microbial genetics, genomics, and molecular biology.
