Dr Danielle Martin moved into her current position as Acting Senior Principal Scientist (Head of Science) in early 2023. She completed her PhD in 2009 in Physical Chemistry at Monash University. She began work at the Australian Synchrotron (AS) in 2008, starting as a Scientific Support Officer at the beamlines. With a background in chemistry and the biomedical sciences, she has collaborated on projects ranging from the forensic sciences to biomedical research. She currently overseas a team of approximately 60 PhD scientists with a wide variety of expertise, working across 14 beamlines with 4 further beamlines under construction. The AS facility hosts 1000+ scientific experiments and 5000+ user visits per year from researchers from across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Further details:I am currently responsible for the management of the Science Team at the AS, working as part of the Senior Management Team with a view to operational and strategic developments and critical thinking: managing, prioritising and facilitating team interactions; stakeholder communication and engagements; influencing, negotiation and difficult conversations; capital & asset management planning and prioritisation; and leading key science initiatives and improvement initiatives across the ANSTO Clayton facility. I am strongly involved in safety across site. I am the current chair of the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee (RSAC) at the AS and held the position of chair of the Health and Safety Committee from 2017-2021.I am responsible for growing the Industry program with the Clayton Science Team, growing our commercial revenue year on year since my appointment in 2019. I work with ANSTO and the Science Team to manage industry strategy and outreach activities, including the development of collateral materials, running site tours, negotiating NDAs and legal contracts and managing data capture and reporting.I also have extensive experience in communication with strong networking and collaboration skills. I have given multiple scientific presentations, workshops, seminars, facility tours and also public lectures. I have written peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, posters, scientific and operational reports and technical instructions and procedures. I have designed and implemented operational processes for the facility and for our extensive external researcher community, and I have experience working with stakeholders at every level, and to scope, design and introduce new systems and processes to staff and to stakeholders.
