• Recognised the significance of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, and acknowledged the implementation of science-based targets (SBTs) to guide corporate goals.• Understanding of the respective inputs to scope 1,2 and 3 GHG categories &allocation of corporate procurement.• Acquired knowledge of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and carbon foot-printing, particularly noting the importance of the scope 3 category in relation to Pfizer’s climate objectives and Net Zero ambitions.• Attended LCA training sessions run by Environmental Resources Management (ERM). Work involved:• Focussed review of procurement of chemicals (standard and CMO), packaging & consumables. Identified a method to understand and align specific material GHG values from complex datasheets (not previously undertaken in Pfizer).• Detailed a number of materials comparing scope 3 spreadsheet allocation of GHG to values derived from a streamlined LCA, thereby being able to contrast scope 3 values between procurement and LCA.• Through this, gained first-hand experience of the ACS GCIPR LCA tool.• The results offered an insight into whether finance is a good measure, and into how scope 3 numerical shifts might change if a move away from financial spends to informed carbon footprints was requested for reporting.

• Acquired expertise in Jupyter Notebook software, a software containing various programs all built with Python. • Incorporated select solvents from historical solubility screening data of various analytes to a computational predictive tool. This work produced high-quality predictions for the benchmarking of a new solubility model. • Gained basic coding skills using Python.

• Carried out laboratory scale synthesis, purification and analysis of compounds that were potential drug candidates.• Role involved taking leadership of a project and being accountable for the design and development of the safest, most economical, and environmentally friendly route available, and for the synthesis of larger batches of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients to support clinical trials.• Use of laboratory facilities, including: the CEM Discover 2.0 Microwave Synthesiser, Biotage Flash Chromatography, Bruker AVANCE Neo 400 MHz NMR Spectrometer, and the Agilent 1290 Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography with the Agilent 6130 Mass Spectrometer Detector.• Developed an understanding of accepted practices and followed Good Manufacturing Practise (GMP) to promote safety and efficiency in the laboratory.• Acquired proficiency in navigating on-line chemical databases and literature to effectively design and plan experiments.• Global collaboration, organisation and adaptability were fundamental in achieving the project’s proposed objectives.• Problem solving skills, perseverance and trial and error were essential when facing the challenges involved in scaling-up chemistry.• Participated in the Six Sigma Yellow Belt training course, where I learnt about continuous improvement and the Yellow Belt tools.
