SCCOOS is a consortium of academic institutions, industry and nonprofit organizations; and is identified as one of 11 Regional Associations around the United States that will implement the coastal component to ensure appropriate direction of resources towards regional coastal ocean observing needs. Our activities are designed to meet the needs of users via an organization that provides mechanisms for Statewide stakeholder input.Under supervision of the Executive Director of SCCOOS, I perform day-to-day administration including program development on SCCOOS behalf. I lead the coordination and all the logistics for multi-institution/multi-agency committees meetings, conferences and special events as well as continually participate in fund-raising. In addition, I develop and analyze a $2.5 million/year budget which leads to the preparation of models and options for planning, preparation and development to provide guidance on current and future activities. I also attend and present at national workshops, meetings and scientific conferences on behalf of SCCOOS.As the Education and Outreach lead I independently synthesize the documents and for proposals, reports, and governance meetings. As a science-based decision support system, I work closely with local, state and federal agencies, resource managers industry, policy makers, educators, scientists and the general public to provide data and products that advance our understanding of the current and future state of our ocean. I identify and cultivate relationships with existing and potential data providers, data users, and other stakeholders and clients to ensure the useful development of science-based products to further their work. I support and maintain our web site as well as create and manage collateral material to forward our outreach mandates for local, state and national audiences.

While I worked at Seaforth responsibilities were to manage and promote the sailing club, the sailing school and the charter locations in San Diego and Mission Bay. I managed a database of over 1000 sailing club members which involved the development of special events to increase public boater education and to create a community of sailors around our business. This job taught me that the value of listening closely to user needs is the first step in building a community base. Once that foundation is laid it is a painstaking attention to detail that allowed us to grow the sailing club and location business significantly.

The Juliet is a beautiful 104 ft. sailboat that offers a week-long diving vacation that ran throughout the Bahamas & Caribbean. My job included giving marine science presentations, carry out an underwater naturalist courses, teach SCUBA courses and lead dives with guests to facilitate a healthy respect for the ocean. As one of five crew members I was also responsible duties topside and below deck required of crew to carry out a successful SCUBA diving live-aboard vacation. The responsibility and the reward of any given trip were equally great.

This charter company provided week long cruises through the Bahamas on a 65 ft. sloop with up to 24 passengers and 6 crew. Responsibilities included dive safety of all passengers & crew, SCUBA classes, as well as all the shared boat duties.
