My practice primarily consisted of counseling clients and representing employers in a wide variety of state and federal labor and employment law matters, including disputes, claims and charges arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the anti-retaliation provisions of the Texas Workers' Compensation Act, the National Labor Relations Act, ERISA and other state and federal labor and employment statutes. I also advised employers and businesses on various day-to-day employment issues, such as hiring and disciplining employees, compensation, employee benefit plans, insurance benefits disputes, management training, employment handbooks, employment contracts, independent contractor agreements, reductions in force, covenants not-to-compete and the protection of confidential and proprietary information. My experience further included labor negotiations, labor arbitrations, collective bargaining, defense of unfair labor practice charges and work stoppage preparation, planning and execution. In my role, I managed all aspects of litigation/arbitration and appeals, including efficiently responding to discovery requests, arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, negotiating favorable settlements, trying cases to verdict/decision and representing clients in appellate proceedings.

In this role, I assisted in researching and drafting opinions on a variety of civil and criminal matters, prepared pre-submission memoranda for oral arguments and conferences, participated in oral arguments, post-argument conferences and debriefings with justices and interviewed and supervised law student interns.
