Texas Tech University Jan 2011 - May 2014
As a research assistant I worked on processing samples, writing research and grant proposals, writing protocols, and training undergraduate and new graduate students to use different instrumentation and equipment. My main task during the last year at Texas Tech was managing the departmental WDXRF instrument. As WDXRF manager I ran analyses, did method development, and performed maintenance. I also managed the geology department's analytical and sample preparation labs when the full-time manager was out of town.
  • Texas Tech University
    Teaching Assistant
Texas Tech University Sep 2010 - Dec 2013
I taught the sophomore level, Mineralogy and Petrology lab. The labs in this course cover packing, symmetry, mineral identification, and hand sample petrology. I worked over my 4 years to update the problem sets and assignments, create new labs, organize samples, create mini-lectures for all the labs, and create grading keys. My other responsibility as TA was to help organize a 3 day field trip that accommodated 70-75 people (60 students, 10 TAs, 2 or more faculty).
  • Rare Element Resources
    Consulting Geologist
Rare Element Resources Aug 2009 - Jul 2011
    Bear Lodge Mountains, Wyoming
As a consulting geologist I completed detailed core logging, quick logging to estimate ore intercepts and when to cut off drill holes, radiometric surveys of core and the exploration area, field mapping, supervising the drillers by performing checks throughout the day and orienting drill rigs, acting as the communication link between the drillers and core loggers, supervising the core splitting/sampling crew, assessing reliability of a handheld WDXRF, and creating cross-sections. I also oversaw the core sampling process which included creating a template for setting sample intervals and insertion of standards, contacting the shipping company when pallets were ready for shipment, communicating with the sample preparation lab, and organizing incoming data to drill hole and interval metadata. I also worked to organize core samples for tours and conferences.
