The Choices We Make with Danielle Pitcher makes use of my personal life events and experiences in an effort to demonstrate the reality that our individual choices not only impact our own lives, but also the lives of others. The lecture mainly covers, but is not limited to the topic of drinking and driving. I share my worst decision and the "domino effect" that followed with all who will listen. Middle school students, high school students, college students, young adults, adults, and people of all age brackets will be able to identify on some level with the presentation.At a glance, I may seem like any run of the mill recent college grad, - Just another twenty-something. Unfortunately, this is not the case. I made one choice during my Junior year at Nazareth College that began a cascade of events which now distinguish me not only from my peers, but from any crowd.On Saturday, January 22, 2011, I made one choice that now defines my entire existence. I made one decision that shattered an incredible family, and rendered an entire community solemn. After having drinks with friends on my college campus, I got behind the wheel of my car with 3 of my good friends. Little did we know, this would be the last time we would feel young, wild, free, utterly invincible, and most importantly, together. Little did we know, one of us wouldn't survive. The choice I made that night was all it took.I am candid in sharing my personal, tragic, and powerful story. I emphasize the many ways in which the choices we make ALWAYS have consequences, and the ways in which our individual choices seem to accumulate, ultimately resulting in a unique "footprint" on the world. I hope to leave listeners passionate about advocating against drinking and driving, and in turn, saving lives. If my listeners leave thinking "what do I want my footprint to be? What will my impact on the world be?", then the choices we make are already more educated!

The entry level position for Clothes Mentor Syracuse is "Sales Associate". Telephone and social network communications, Learned register functions on a POS system (Check outs, returns, gift card issue, etc.), and housekeeping. Associates maintain a clear fitting room rack, continuously running items back to where they belong. As long as speed and efficiency are up to par, once familiarity is established with the floor layout, as well as with all entry-level operations, employees may advance in to the "Buying arena". "Buyers" are trained on an extensive "label guide" which outlines what "current labels" and "past labels" look like for the 100s of brands we accept. Clothes Mentor only purchases items that are in impeccable condition, and also originally purchased within the last 18-24 months, so if a label inside a pristine garment shows to be from 4 years ago, the buyer has to pass based on the age, and also explain to the customer any reasons for passing. Training to become a "buyer" can seem like a daunting task, because we are expected to learn multiple generations of labels for hundreds of brands. In addition to verifying labels, "buyers" are also expected to make judgement calls based on style. "Buyers" have to have a general idea of the store's inventory and current fashion trends to know that the items will sell. "Buyers" also explain the process to customers on a case by case basis, making sure they're aware of how the system works.In addition to Sales Associate and Buyer tasks, keyholders are responsible for efficiently opening and closing the store, including settling up all the registers. All registers must be counted, recorded, and cross referenced with the projected totals. Any discrepancies must be settled before the system is shut down. Keyholders must also make sure ALL daily tasks were completed before they leave and lock up. The PM keyholder strives to have to store in the best possible condition for the openers.

Campus Safety Dispatcher (student dispatcher): Coordinate communication between officers. Establish territorial boundary assignments for each officer. Answer hardline phone calls (5 non-emergency lines, 3 emergency lines.) Keep record of all incoming phone calls in logbook, taking down any and all pertinent exchanges. Be confident and familiar with the radio. Since dispatchers often work with law enforcement and a number of other emergency services, a general knowledge of police radio call signs and codes is beneficial so all parties can communicate effectively. Keep record of all radio transactions in official log book. Send out officers to complaints. Keep an up to date and accurate log book, these notations will be used for official reports. Stay educated on the various alarm systems (water, smoke, fire, security breach, etc.), and the appropriate response for each. Must record in log when emergency call is received, followed by the appropriate action to relieve the emergency. For Example: if a fire and a medical emergency call were both to come in, the dispatcher would have to remain calm, multitask, and log all the necessary information. Dispatcher would then follow the appropriate protocol to dispatch what ever emergency services are needed. Skill in communicating clearly, concisely, and relaying details accurately, being able to not only multitask, but thrive under pressure.So long as time permits and circumstances are important, the dispatcher could even do as much as call back at a later point to check on the situation. Dispatchers are often in the center of the "hive", They hear and record and relay the entire shift, so skill in communicating clearly, concisely, and relaying details accurately, being able to not only multitask, but thrive under pressure are infinitely important.
