I work directly with our orthopedic surgeons in the treatments of joint and bone injuries. I apply, adjust and remove plaster splints, fiberglass casts, slings and braces and attach and assemble orthopedic traction equipment and devices as directed by our physicians. Bed traction units are required at times for reductions. Wound care pre and post surgery, staple and stitch removal as well as adjusting bandaging and instructing patients on caring for their wounds. I assist our surgeons in minor in office procedures including A1 pulley releases, ganglion cyst removals, carpal tunnel releases and DeQuervain's tenosynovitis, as well as setting the sterile field and prepping patients for surgery. Regular cleaning and maintenance of surgical instruments with enzymatic cleaners and surgical brushes is required.
