Board Member

Rumson, New Jersey, United States

My goal as a board member is to promote the organization’s mission of providing reading access to underserved children across New Jersey. As an ambassador of the organization’s Book Ark free library program, I have given speeches at colleges and conferences to help educate community organizations on how to build and maintain these libraries. These free libraries allow children free access to “love a book” and “pass a book” which ultimately helps spark a passion for reading at a young age. Since joining the board, 10 free libraries have been built and welcomed into communities including Keansburg, Asbury Park, Red Bank, Freehold, Neptune City, and Newark, New Jersey.

Language Arts Teacher

As a general education 7th grade Language Arts teacher, I have implemented the reading and writing workshop program using the NJ learning standards. I have also written and implemented a rigorous and engaging curriculum for the 7th grade Advanced Language Arts program. This curriculum included teaching classic and contemporary literature touching on important topics such as The Hero’s Journey, Civic Responsibility, and Social Issues. The program also included collaborative book club units and projects such as Ted Talks, podcasts, debates, and the creation of a writer’s portfolio. As team leader, I help manage a cohort of 100 7th grade students and guide the daily functioning of 6 teachers. I facilitate team meetings with teachers to proactively problem solve the complex social-emotional and academic needs of the middle school child. I regularly communicate with administration and parents to advocate for students to help provide a safe and productive environment for my students to achieve on an academic and personal level. As a teacher, I have been able to share my organizational skills by leading the following school programs: -Coordinated the Medieval Times field trip for 600 attendees. -Coordinated a school-wide Read Across America Day and Read-A-Thon.-Coordinated a grade-level Literacy Celebration providing students with a hands-on workshop with published graphic novelist, Kevin Byles. -Co-advise the MTMS Builders Club promoting service and leadership abilities in middle school students.

Miss New Jersey For America Strong 2022

As a titleholder, I fostered a meaningful partnership with The Bridge of Books Foundation to ensure that all kids across the state, despite any barriers, have access to the most diverse and rich reading experiences that books can offer. I truly believe that reading empowers our youth to be more successful, creative and compassionate people.During my reign as Miss New Jersey, I helped collect over 5,000 books, raise thousands of dollars for The Bridge of Books Foundation, and helped welcome Book Ark free libraries in various underserved communities across Monmouth County, New Jersey. I had the privilege of visiting elementary schools to read-aloud and speak to the children about the importance of reading.
