The Donor Analytical Sciences (DAS) group performed two major functions: donor stool sample screening and assay development. My Senior Associate responsibilities were split between these two functions.-Successfully designed and developed a faster and more cost-effective donor-screening assay in less than a year.-Managed two qualifications of process-critical reagents in a timely and efficient manner, beginning with publishing an SOP and managing all colleagues involved with this qualification, to data acquisition and analysis, and ending with authoring the final report.-Implemented a rotating lab cleaning schedule to ensure GMP compliance and equitable distribution of labor amongst the team.-Functioned as an ad hoc manager and mentor to colleagues via involvement in the assay development project, teaching new techniques, providing guidance through experimental design and data analysis, and providing constructive feedback

Dr. Weathers' Lab Group

I was a thesis-based Master’s student and mentor of Undergraduate students in the lab. -Designed, developed, and optimized a comprehensive series of in vitro molecular- and microscopy-based experiments to understand how malaria transmission can be inhibited by the use of Artemisia annua tea treatments. -Published the above Master’s Thesis research in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology in 2021.Please refer to 'Projects' section for a description of my Master's thesis project.

I was a teaching assistant for 5 lab-based and 3 lecture-based courses. For lab-based courses, I assisted the professor with grading lab notebooks, setting up and breaking down the lab space, assisting students with experimental questions, and occasionally running lessons. For lecture-based courses, I assisted the professor with grading, running lectures, and meeting with students.

I was a tutor for several core science and biology classes. My responsibilities included helping students strengthen their critical thinking skills, guiding them through course material that they found challenging, listening carefully to identify their problems, and constantly evaluating personal performance to ensure the tutoring session was effective for the student.

Dr. Riley'S Lab Group

My research responsibilities included running experiments, recording and analyzing the data, and communicating the information gathered in a comprehensive and concise manner. Lab maintenance responsibilities included keeping it fully stocked with materials needed for experiments, prepping materials in a timely manner, and ensuring that safety equipment was up to code. Additional responsibilities included training several new employees and creating thorough protocols for the lab.

Dr. Riley'S Lab Group

While the lab manager was out on maternity leave, I took on many administrative responsibilities in order to keep the lab running smoothly. These responsibilities included ordering materials in a time and cost efficient manner, managing the lab's credit card, organizing meetings with collaborators, creating a thorough set of administrative protocols for use by future lab managers, and inspecting the lab weekly to ensure safety equipment was up to code.

Springfield, Massachusetts Area

The goals of the STEM Ambassadors Program were to engage incoming freshmen in STEM research and mentoring opportunities on campus, provide a network of support for 'at risk' students, and increase the retention rate within STEM majors. During the summer of 2015, the program launched a pilot experience for a small number of students within the program to be placed in different labs and do research. As the leader of this group, I was their point of contact. I performed check-ins with the students to make sure their experience was going well, and relayed that information to the program director. I organized a day trip for the group, and I handled any personal issues, medical issues, or program related issues that arose.

I was a summer biology intern through the MLSC program. My responsibilities included working on the assigned project, developing experimental protocols, troubleshooting existing protocols, establishing a clean and organized work space, and presenting data to collaborators.
