Going into college I had a passion for criminal justice and education. After exploring both degrees, I discovered that I wanted a profession that could connect me to people from all walks of life, which is how I found Social Work. Social work allows me to delve deeper into my passions and creates room for developing new interests. Throughout my years working in a psychiatric hospital, I developed a deep connection to mental health. Similarly to how I found social work, working in mental health connected my passions and expanded my appreciation to a population that I feel devoted to. Over the years I've worked with children and adolescents who experienced abuse and neglect. Adults who are homeless and have drug addiction disorders. I worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and comorbidities. I've navigated systemic injustices and the complexities of the healthcare system. Even though I have been in the work force for a short 3 years, my experience is unparalleled. I grew up volunteering at charities sorting belongings and furniture, along with food banks and shelters assisting with the homeless. I completed an internship in high school at Make-A-Wish Foundation compiling wish packets. I also interned at a women's halfway house in college where I worked with women released from jail with co-occurring disorders. I am highly motivated and determined to continue my growth and learning in this large profession. I am openminded and curious to explore new areas of social work, while continuing to connect my passions. My empathy knows no bounds and I look forward to continuing social work in the professional world.
