I am interested in veterinary science and disease ecology in wildlife and have started a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at James Cook University, which will allow me to practice as a veterinarian. I completed a Masters of Philosophy (Veterinary Science) with the University of Melbourne, using data from a foot-and-mouth project run by Oregon State University in Kruger National Park, South Africa. I looked at the intensity of infection from two species of tick-borne blood parasite that cause anaplasmosis. I created predictive models to infer susceptibility to the disease, further investigate co-infection interactions, and analysed the effect of a newly-identified species from this genus on both the buffalo host, and on each other.I have a more general background of undergraduate study in the zoology/ecology field, as well as completing linguistics and journalism majors. I have studied veterinary nursing which helps me be more 'hands-on' in research, as well as just being an enjoyable job. I also would like to continue working on how to communicate science with the general public in a more effective manner through newspaper and radio journalism.
