My career has a theme running through it: molecules and intestines (maybe poo sometimes). This fascination in the gross had led me to discover pathogenic factors found in bacteria, cellulases from anaerobic fungi (in the forestomach of the kangaroo) and immuno-modulatory molecules from gut dwelling parasitic worms.In 2013 I moved from Australia to Scotland to study the effect parasite molecules have on models of inflammatory bowel disease (publication in Nature Communications) and I am now investigating helminth molecules in the quest to find novel therapies for inflammatory conditions such as allergic asthma at The University of Dundee.
