Supplemental Instruction was designed to help students study and prepare for notoriously hard classes, like chemistry, physics, calculus, etc. As an SI Leader, I prepare lesson plans, quizzes, study guides, etc. and attend lectures. I'm currently an SI for Chemistry 001C (Equilibria, Coordination Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, etc.). I'm having an absolutely fantastic time learning & teaching!!

In Dr. Ming Lee Tang's functional nanocrystal laboratory, I am involved in two separate but related projects concerned with upconversion and singlet fission. I work independently on the organic synthesis of transmitter ligands capable of transferring light from nanoparticles to organic molecules capable of combining or splitting photons. The purpose of these projects is to produce visible light from heat (which is lost in the absorption process) and from UV rays (which pass through the photovoltaic cell, unabsorbed). I am proficient at gathering and interpreting proton NMR data as well as at performing chemical reactions.I got to attend the 253rd Annual American Chemical Society Conference in San Francisco, CA in early April to present my research on singlet fission. It was a fantastic experience; I got to meet, teach, and learn from intellectuals from all over the world (including Taiwan!). I also presented my research at UCR's Undergraduate Research Symposium which took place in early May.

Don's Bicycles was voted the best bike shop in the Inland Empire in 2015 and 2016. The most important aspects of this job were to connect with the customers and sell bikes. I loved getting to know my community through the bike shop! It was also nice being able to practice my salesmanship. Probably the best part about having this job though is the connections that I have made with people. The anniversary ride, Tuesday Night Rides through Redlands, and "special event" group rides (like celebrating the life of Randy, a beloved Don's customer who died in a biking accident) are all so special to me, because they use fitness to bring people together. Don's has made me a healthier, more well-rounded person inside and out. I am so grateful for the opportunity I've been blessed with by working here.
