Danielle Wang has been an English teacher at Hartford Public Schools for the past ten years. During her tenure at Bulkeley High School she has worked on various 9th grade teams with a focus on supporting students at the start of their high school career. She has worked on writing curriculum for the freshmen seminar and was a leader for the team meetings. With her team, she has worked on various interdisciplinary projects and activities and community service opportunities for the 9th graders. She has also worked on writing and revising the 9th grade English curriculum for the district and had presented at various professional developments regarding the implementation. She has also attended professional developments with Chris Lehman with the focus on supporting students in their love of reading. She works to have students take ownership of their reading through the use of mentor texts and allows student choice in her classroom. From 2018-2020, Danielle was a part of Stanford's Hollyhock fellowship. The program is a support to teachers to work in teams within their schools to focus on better teaching practices and equity for all students. Danielle has also been involved in the Blended Learning initiative with Education Elements in HPS. She was an early adopter teacher and has attended and presented at PDs about using technology in the classroom. She continues to work in classrooms that are one-to-one with a focus on utilizing technology to help students who are learning English. She graduated from the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education with bachelors degrees in English and Secondary Education- English. She received her master's degree from UCONN as well with a concentration in curriculum and instruction.
