Field School ParticpantPreservation Institute: Nantucket Jun 2010 - Jul 2010Nantucket, Ma•Eight week program through the University of Florida which offers student participants experiential or hands-on learning in cultural heritage, documentation, management, and conservation. •Conducted a comprehensive existing conditions assessment of the Boston-Higginbotham House, a late eighteenth-century structure that had been substantially modified over time by two prominent African-American families on Nantucket. The results were used by the Museum of African American History in Boston, Massachusetts, the owner of the property, to help guide decisions on rehabilitating the house. •Documented and researched the Maria Mitchell House, an historic house museum interpreting and celebrating the life and achievements of Maria Mitchell. Researched and synthesized the current physical conditions of the house, identified and assessed the needs of the current users, and proposed a holistic management plan for the ongoing maintenance, interpretation, and conservation of the house. •Took field measurements and created Historic American Building Survey-quality AutoCAD drawings of the New Kitchen of the Maria Mitchell House. •Performed paint and mortar analysis on historic structures.
