Senior EngineerOnsemi Jun 2020 - Jul 2024 -
Graduate Student Research AssistantUniversity Of Oregon Sep 2015 - Jun 2020Eugene, Oregon AreaDoctoral work focused on the investigation of the influence of nanoarchitecture on the structure -property relationships in kinetically stable thin film nanolaminate heterostructures. This work involved the calibration of physical vapor deposition equipment to synthesize and prepare novel rotationally disordered thin films. The structure-property relationships were systematically probed with a variety of techniques including X-ray diffraction and reflectivity (in-house and synchrotron based), structural models and refinements, and a custom-built electro-magnet for electrical properties. Along with synthesis and characterization of these materials I maintained the operation of custom-build physical vapor deposition, high vacuum chamber and variant temperature hall measurement system. This work included leak checking, trouble-shooting and maintaining all parts of a three-stage pumping system, complete rebuilds of e-beam guns, and integration of new hardware required by upgrades. Designing a new physical vapor deposition system for MER synthesis that will improve upon the systems that are already in effect. Assist in the management of the thin film X-ray diffraction lab including industry collaboration, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of system failures. -
Undergraduate Research AssistantLake Superior State University Aug 2013 - May 2015Sault Ste. Marie, MichiganWorked in Collaboration with Dr. Peter C. Ford’s research group at the University of California, Santa Barbara to prepare new heterogeneous catalysts for the converting biomass into fuels and chemical feedstocks. This included the synthesis and characterization of several new heterogeneous porous metal oxide catalysts before studying their catalytic ability of the degradation of a model biomass compound. As a part of this project I worked to restore a gas chromatography mass spectrometer to operating condition and maintained its operation through the duration of the project. -
