My current position as a Community Health Worker involves contacting citizens in Flint, Michigan to inform them about the Lead Safe Homes Program and the Neuropsychological Testing services which are available to their families who have been affected by the Flint Water Crisis. I assist them in applying for these programs, which requires mailing a series of letters, making telephone calls, and occasionally visiting homes. I also refer my consumers to our Family Supports Program and the Flint Registry for additional services. Previous and current employment has provided me with several years of experience in classroom instruction, case management, retail sales, and customer service. As a work activities counselor, I supervised multiply-disabled adults in a sheltered workshop setting. My position entailed performing assessments, administering treatment plans, and providing training services to classes of up to 30 students. I directed paid work projects for these clients and kept payroll records. In addition to writing weekly, monthly, and yearly reports for each client in my classroom, I also wrote special intake reports and discharge summaries program-wide.While striving to provide superior customer service, I sold many types of items, including books, clothing, jewelry, accessories, baked goods, and craft supplies. In 2015 I began substitute teaching for several school districts within Genesee County, teaching children from Pre-Kindergarten through High School in all subject areas.I have extensive training and experience in writing and public speaking. I am willing to travel.I volunteer for two non-profit art organizations: Flint Handmade and Abilities First Charitable Organization of Michigan, Inc.I am a public education advocate and a former volunteer for Flint Community Schools. For 12 years I was a member of the Durant Tuuri Mott Parent Activity Council; I was elected both Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson during this time. I served concurrently as a Representative for the Federal Title 1 Program of the Flint Community Schools, as well.I enjoy creating order out of chaos, whether that means converting board meeting minutes into easily understood prose, or displaying donated items for maximum impact and sales.
