Daniel A. Leonardo is a Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel at Multicoin Capital Management LLC, a thesis-driven investment firm that invests in cryptocurrencies, tokens, and blockchain technology.Prior to joining Multicoin, Leonardo was an attorney in the Division of Examinations of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). During his six-and-a-half year tenure at the SEC he was Senior Counsel in the Private Funds Unit and, previously, was Senior Counsel in the Investment Adviser/Investment Company program. In both units he examined private funds to determine their compliance with federal securities laws, particularly the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. Prior to working at the SEC Leonardo worked at ACA Compliance Group providing consulting services to registered investment advisers, including private funds. Leonardo’s legal experience includes eight years of complex civil litigation experience in state and federal courts, including business litigation, banking litigation, commercial litigation, professional liability litigation, and bankruptcy matters. During private practice he also drafted and negotiated general business contracts, including employment, vendor, lease, non-disclosure, privacy, and confidentiality agreements.Leonardo was born and raised in Lima, Peru and is fluent in Spanish.
