BioRhodes provides biomedical engineering consulting services to companies and new inventors. These services include biomechanical analysis, testing, and evaluation of internal and external medical devices. Provide expert services related to the Injury Biomechanics research program such as material testing, biomedical instrumentation, ATDs, and data acquisition and analysis.Create experienced based solutions to create, measure, and evaluate biomechanical responses for soldier injury prevention.Develop standard operating procedures to ensure sound engineering principles and safety procedures for research and test plans of volunteers, cadaveric specimens, or animals.Provide biomedical expertise in analyzing and evaluating ongoing research through data and documentation.Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to prepare for studies. This includes design work, troubleshooting, and selection and justification of equipment/materials necessary to complete the work.

Development of the first intravascular defibrillator. Responsible for developing, designing and conducting applicable tests for all mechanical functions of the Intravascular defibrillator in the design phase. Offered support to design engineers by assisting with biomechanical requirements and testing efforts.Lead the biomechanical analysis of our canine model to ensure the mechanical integrity in vivo for long term GLP studies.Created a human bench model from the Visual Human Project Data.

Conceptualized and managed the building of a Repetitive Motion Testing System to mimic physiological motion such as walking, running, jumping, and falling.Created a process to create bench model vasculature with silicone to model the human veins and the current animal model for implant tool development. Contributed to the design effort with biomechanical analysis of implant location to ensure the mechanical properties of the device would survive the in vivo environment. Determined the resting site of the implant, lengths and diameters of occupying veins, and physiological ranges of motion.Managed the cardiac lead development project from concept through the design / process phase. Responsible for directing vendors with design inputs and requirements.

Injury Biomechanics LabConducted experimental work in injury biomechanics of the human spine and model development for helmet research.Responsible for experimental design, data acquisition, and data analysis and management.Worked closely with graduate students and medical students in various aspects of head and neck injury research.Performed engineering duties to design, develop, construct and test specialized instruments, equipment, apparatus and systems for the development of engineering projects, the solution of engineering problems, and other research and development activities; analyze systems to determine feasibility of design implementation.

Implant biomechanics, spinal implant evaluation, biomedical researchEducated and lectured medical students on structural engineering as applied to Orthopaedic surgery. Developed biomechanical testing protocols according to the ASTM standards, composed proposals and generated budget estimates for projects for industrial companies and in house interest.Interacted directly with surgeons, sales consultants, and product development engineers to define and develop improvements and modifications to current testing protocols and product design concepts.Provided consulting services for companies on implant designs based on testing results.Supervised Orthopaedic surgery residents, medical students, engineering students and volunteers on research projects.
