Danielle Cortes DeVito EMT-P serves as the Continuous Improvement Advisor for FEMA Region V's COVID-19 Regional Response. In this position, her responsibilities include lessons learned and best practices, for disasters, training, exercises, and National Special Security Events in support of the Region's six states which include Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, along with 34 federally recognized tribal nations. Ms. Cortes DeVito began her career in emergency medical services in the private ambulance industry. She earned the outstanding emergency medical technician award while working at Cook County hospital's emergency room. In 2004, Ms. Cortes DeVito joined the Chicago Fire Department receiving the outstanding candidate and community commitment award. While at CFD, her specialty details included the Segway and bike response team for the Dalai Lama and the 43rd president on the United States. Seeing a need for community preparedness, Cortes DeVito began training clients IKEA, Fifth Third Bank, and Shell Oil in CPR and First Aid. In 2009 Cortes DeVito became the first paramedic spokesperson for American Heart Association and was featured in the "Hands of Time" documentary. Cortes DeVito is a public information officer and an emergency preparedness media consultant that was featured on more than twenty media outlets, including Access Hollywood, Fox News, and EMS1.com.In 2016 Cortes DeVito joined FEMA and spent two months in Texas supporting the flood response. In 2017 she assisted Hurricane Maria evacuees in Chicago at the Multiagency Agency Response Center.Danielle holds a paramedic license in the state of Illinois, an Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services and a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy and Public Safety concentration Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
