For most of my life, my two main interests were at odds. I loved learning about how the environment worked. I got two degrees – a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Studies, a Master of Science degree in Forest Hydrology and a fellowship with the National Academy of Sciences – mainly because my curiosity couldn’t resist. My other passion is language arts. The practical side of me resisted a formal education in communications or literature, but my personal interests and professional journey has given me over fifteen years of experience communicating complicated scientific topics to the public. In fact, my experience as a science writer is so deep that I’ve witnessed and adapted to a variety of terms, even just to market myself. Environmental, global warming, climate change, sustainable, circular economy, regenerative… all these words and more have cycled through as the main ways to describe my interests and the subjects I write about for clients all over the world. But the message is the same. The public does not always seek out, understand, or care about what is happening in the natural world, unless someone with a knack for translating that message can put it in terms that they understand and is relevant for their own lives. I have been a writer for over ten years working as a freelancer and most recently also acted as the Communications & PR Manager for a startup indoor vertical farming company. This experience has given me razor sharp time management skills as well as the ability to work with a variety of personalities and professional objectives all over the world. My scientific background and experience have given me a unique ability to take complex technical information and translate it into an engaging and relevant story.
