I am a lead teacher of the Young Naturalist Program, a natural science summer class for children ages 5-7 that explores various local habitats and organisms of the Dartmouth, MA area. My responsibilities include writing and implementing daily lesson plans, supervising the drop-off and dismissal process to ensure student safety, and teaching students with a variety of activities, including nature walks, scavenger hunts, educational art projects, content-related books, videos, games, and demonstrations. Topics that I have covered include mollusks, estuaries, the deep sea, whales, sharks, life cycles, camouflage, dinosaurs, wetlands, and macroinvertebrates.

As a Museum Associate, I manage the front desk, sell memberships, check in visitors, answer phone calls, collect donations, book and host birthday parties, and open and close the museum. In the fall of 2013, I led a preschool-level class once a week that focused on nature and various ways to use natural materials to create arts and crafts projects outdoors. I also planned, organized, and implemented weekly hands-on science activities with children of all ages and their families in the Museum’s “Fetch! Lab.”

I corresponded closely with the professor of a General Psychology course and assisted her in selecting class activities and correcting assignments, as well as independently leading review sessions before exams. This was a position for which I was specifically chosen at the initiation of my professor on the basis of my academic achievement and strong interest in the subject.
